The 97 type Army reconnaissance aircraft was first deployed in May 1937 for the purpose of strategic reconnaissance missions using high-speed machines not previously available. The 18th Independent Flight Group made use of those high-speed machines over China and achieved spectacular results in collecting information for planning operations on both the air and ground of the Army. Tiger’s Troops Mark become the symbol of a reconnaissance team performing missions through long-haul flights over China.
