This formation takes its name from the Kwantung Leased Territory formed in 1898 by the Qing Dynasty. Kwantung in this meaning translates to ‘east of Shangai Pass’. This army was officially formed and garrisoned in 1906 when Japan regained possession of the Kwantung territories from the Russians after the Russo-Japanese War. The set represents an infantry team as equipped at the beginning of World War II.
