While Mitsubishi Heavy Industries developed and manufactured Japan’s most prominent aircraft, the Zero Fighter, production took place at Nakajima Aircraft Company as well, and their production numbers eventually superseded that of Mitsubishi’s production.
While both Nakajima and Mitsubishi manufactured the Type 52s, there are subtle differences in Type 52s that rolled out of each factory. The appearance of the two differed with the demarcation line between the dark green and the light gray underside, as well as the width of the white rim of the red national insignia on the main wing. However, besides from the livery there are design difference in the airframe, such as the length of the heat shield patches attached to the fuselage near the non-separated exhaust was longer with Nakajima than Mitsubishi.
This kit faithfully reproduces the differences between the Mitsubishi Zero Fighters and the Nakajima Zero Fighters. Another prominent feature is how the transparent parts of the canopy are separate from the frame, making painting the frame easier. (The kit will include a traditional one-piece canopy as well.) Disregarding conventional approaches in aircraft model building, this kit instead replicated the construction of the original aircraft as the fuselage is comprised of front and rear sections. This kit aims to be a precise but easily buildable plastic model kit by eliminating the need to clean and touching up the fitting between the fuselage parts. This kit is an entirely new tooling.
